GTA 4

Okay it looks like we are back in Liberty City (The GTA 3 location) only its a completely different and new place...they seem to have used New York as a template as it looks extremely like the Big Apple The trailer reveals beautifully rendered time-lapse shots of what looks like Manhattan, Coney Island and Brooklyn, all filled with familiar landmarks. The Statue of Liberty, Wall Street, Times Square, the Flatiron Building and Grand Central Station....but all this is part of Liberty City. Here's a link to the teaser trailer...

Sex and the City Movie

My goodness you ladies are going to love this but I was watching The Friday Night Project there and Kim Cattrall confirmed that there is a Sex and the City movie coming.....Its set for a 2008 release and is going to be directed by Michael Patrick King who incidently directed and wrote a load of the episodes and was also Executive Producer on the majority of them. The usual suspects are set to star like Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon and Chris Noth (Mr Big) I have to question what else is there to be done with characters and how many more sexual positions or things can Samantha do........what am I saying. ...Lets see it!!! The Famous Five Return...erm.... Twice

Yes the popular sleuth quintet created by Enid Blyton is set to be "reimagined" as middle-aged grown-ups in a new TV drama for adults. Julian, Dick, Anne, George - with a descendant of the original Timmy the dog - will be reunited 30 years after their original exploits. In the television series, the characters will be in their forties and drawn together to solve complex contemporary mysteries. What can you do but laugh and secretly look forward to it I used to always have to watch the old tv show due to my sisters though I did always like their torches at the time which were like chunky contempory pieces for the boys and little dinky ones for the girls....yes we had little to amuse us back then....

But alas will the good news never end for a new Famous Five animated TV series, chronicling the Kirrin Island kids in a 21st century setting, is also currently in co-production with Disney. It is set to be broadcast on Disney Channel in the UK in the spring of 2008. I have to say I'm looking forward to both.,..yes I admit it...but more to the first one I just so know George ended up a lesbian and Dick could have serious issues as a direct result of his past traumas lol

Lightsabre Goes into Space

The crew of Space Shuttle Discovery will blast off to the International Space Station in October - armed with Luke Skywalker's lightsaber.

NASA agreed to take the original Star Wars prop to mark the 1977 film's 30th Anniversary. Film character Chewbacca handed it to officials yesterday.

Owen Wilson Suicide Attempt??

Actor Owen Wilson was taken to a hospital in Santa Monica, Calif., Sunday, according to a story Drudge Report linked to on Sunday. It was reported that the star of "Wedding Crashers" and "Starsky & Hutch" had cut his left wrist and taken an undetermined amount of pills. He was apparently found by a family member who called for help.

I really like Owen in stuff...what made him do that if indeed it is what they say?? I guess you have an image of someone and perhaps its very different in reality.......Wilson to me always comes across happy go lucky.....particularly as he is mates with Ben Stiller too
He's just after finishing filming another film with Stiller who is also in the director's seat called Tropic Thunder...... it looks good

Here's hoping he's alright now!

1408

I'm not a huge fan of John Cusack but I have to say that I thought he was exellent in this....he plays a small time cult writer Mike Enslin who spends much of his time staying in various hotels or places that are rumoured to be haunted in order to make reference to them in his books...his previous books are basically studies on the haunted premise of the buildings and he writes with pure scepticism on the paranormal...advertising the locations...yes... but also debunking their ghostly claims too. Enslin speaks throughout on his tape recorder, and early on you can see he is obsessed with his work so when he gets a strange postcard amongst other haunted Hotel invites saying 'Don't enter room 1408' he just can't resist. Cue the appearance of Samuel L Jackson the manager of the hotel who goes to great extent to persuade Cusack not to stay in the room but to no avail and he enters.........Jackson although billed as a major actor even joining Cusack on the cover of posters, covers, etc really has a very small part in the movie, granted its a good one though.... The film builds up extremely well while you follow Enslin's analytical mind deduce early on that the room is just like any other he has stayed at..... that is until of course things start happening that his logic seems unable to reason with...It is after this that we get much more of an insight into the character's past along with watching his assured self control dwindle away......... You can tell immediately that it is a Stephen King short and as a fan of King I love the way he builds up an atmosphere and also his character developments...I actually noticed alot of different subtle referrences to other stories of his in this one......The fact its in a hotel automatically points to The Shining.......one of the first victims of the room was named Grady ......Grady was a character in "The Shining, ..Enslin also has the superstitious habits of a writer reminiscent of Paul Sheldon in Misery (Of course I'm also aware that King could be using himself as a template when creating characters that are writers and thats where the similarity lies) and there is a scene very similar to that end sequence in Misery where Paul thinks he sees Annie Wilkes serving at the restaurant. The movie gives its fair amount of shocks too and there is a real claustrobic feel as soon as he enters 1408, I think part of the reason I liked the movie is because I could identify somewhat with the Enslin character or at least his scepticism although he was a bit more extreme in that regard than me and the first sign of trouble and I would have been out of there....no truthfully after Jackson's warnings I would never have even entered it in the first place . Mikael Hafstrom does a good directing job too constantly keeping the intensity up moving to each notch pushing us the audience with it revealing more of the character's story...which is very much what the movie is all about...

Anyway a good entertaining Horror, not King's best by a long shot but still very much an enjoyable creepy ride...

Young Footballer killed

QPR's teenage striker Ray Jones has died in a car accident. The Championship club postponed Saturday's match at Burnley following the death of the young forward. A statement said: "QPR is in mourning following the tragic news that striker Ray Jones died in a motor accident in the early hours of Saturday morning." The 18-year-old England youth international was involved in an accident in East Ham and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Police confirmed Jones was one of three people to have been killed in the collision between a black Volkswagen Golf and a double-decker bus. Its always a shame when you read something like this.... a bright young player with a great future ahead of him (He had even attracted interest from Premier League Clubs) cut tragically short like that......Your heart goes out to his family.

Lust, Caution (Se jie)

The latest film from Brokeback Mountain director Ang Lee - Lust, Caution - has been given an NC-17 rating in the US. The rarely awarded rating means the Chinese-language war film cannot be seen by anyone under the age of 17. It is thought the ruling by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) was made because of graphic sex scenes, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Some US cinemas refuse to show films with an NC-17 rating, thereby reducing the number of potential viewers. However, distributor Focus Features said it would not contest the ruling. "When we screened the final cut of this film, we knew we weren't going to change a frame," said Focus Features' James Schamus, who co-wrote the screenplay. "As with so many of his previous films, Oscar-winning director Ang Lee has crafted a masterpiece about and for grown-ups," added Schamus, who worked with Lee on Brokeback Mountain. Its been released soon in the states but for some reason the UK are getting it in January 2008
As for the film .....You've read the title ........need I say more??? lol

A Healthy Eating Cartoon Urrrghhhhhh

TV chef Jamie Oliver is to be transformed into a cartoon by Wallace and Gromit creators Aardman Animations. As little j, a 10-year-old cartoon version of himself, he will search for the secret of how to become a great chef in 52 11-minute cartoons. The series is aimed at seven to 11-year-olds and is being made in collaboration with Aardman Animations and Oliver's production company Fresh One Productions. AdvertisementSpeaking about the project, the chef said: "I can't tell you how passionate I am about kids and food." "I really want to pass on a little knowledge in a fun way, to really connect to the younger kids, so teaming up with the incredible Aardman Animations to produce little j was an absolute must."

Will this guy just ever go away and die already? If only I could smash my fist down on his clay animated ass and squeeze him into oblivion.....grrrrrr the guy irritates me..... Him and Ian Wright who I see is back on telly doing Kelloggs ads and spouting some dubious fact that those who eat breakfast are more likely to be slim and this he says is why he is backing Kelloggs.......yeah right dipshit its nothing to do with you getting paid by Kelloggs Who do these people think they are fooling???

Sweeney Todd

This poster has just been released and I have to say I love it...its cool!!!

Johnny Depp and Tim Burton join forces again in a big-screen adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s award-winning musical thriller Sweeney Todd. Depp stars in the title role as a man unjustly sent to prison who vows revenge, not only for that cruel punishment, but for the devastating consequences of what happened to his wife and daughter. When he returns to reopen his barber shop, Sweeney Todd becomes the Demon Barber of Fleet Street who “shaved the heads of gentlemen who never thereafter were heard from again.” Joining Depp is Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs. Lovett, Sweeney’s amorous accomplice, who creates diabolical meat pies. The
cast also includes Alan Rickman, who portrays the evil Judge Turpin, who sends Sweeney to prison and Timothy Spall as the Judge’s wicked associate Beadle Bamford and Sacha Baron Cohen is a rival barber, the flamboyant Signor Adolfo Pirelli.
This film looks great....
Sweeney Todd opens to theaters on December 21st.

Anton Yelchin to play Chekhov in new Trek

Apparently, Anton Yelchin is in negotiations to play the Enterprise navigator Pavel Chekov in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek prequel.. I've never heard of him before but I think it's a good idea to get someone unknown to play the role instead of a famous name.

James McAvoy is Scotty in New Trek

Scots film star James McAvoy will play Scotty in a new Star Trek film, it has been reported. The 28-year-old from Glasgow has won the role of the Starship Enterprise's famously dour chief engineer, according to the Scottish Sunday Mirror. Scotty was played in the iconic TV series by Canadian James Doohan and was immortalised in Captain Kirk's phrase "Beam Me Up, Scotty". McAvoy, star of the Oscar-winning The Last King of Scotland and the forthcoming Atonement, will appear in the 11th film of the hit Sci-Fi series, the paper said. The movie reportedly takes the crew back to Starfleet Academy. A film insider told the paper: "McAvoy had to go through a full casting process - and was up against famous names and total unknowns. "He was called back a couple of times before getting the phone call from one of the producers to say he had won the role." I do think he is a good choice....they really did need someone who was Scottish and young looking enough to suit too.....

Billy Ray's thriller recreates the surveillance operation to bring down devoutly religious family man Hanssen (Chris Cooper) and to expose him as a traitor. Special Agents Dean Plesac and Kate Burroughs lead the internal probe and they approach 26 year old Eric O'Neill (Ryan Phillippe) to spy on Hanssen - his new boss - gathering evidence of any wrongdoing.

September Dawn

A story set against the Mountain Meadows Massacre, the film is based upon the tragedy which occurred in Utah in 1857. ironically on the 11th of September A group of settlers, traveling on wagons, was murdered by the native Mormons. All together, about 140 souls of men, women and children, were taken. Amidst this, two young lovers-to-be, one a Mormon and the other one of the doomed settlers from Arkansas, develop a relationship in an atmosphere of suspicion and rancor. This movie has an epic feel by the look of it and has a great cast which includes Jon Voight, Trent Ford, Lolita Davidovich, Dean Cain and Terence Stamp.... its also causing alot of controversy in certain corners most notably with the Mormon crowd as it represents the view that Brigham Young had a direct role in the massacre, while the LDS Church (Mormon) maintains that "the weight of historical evidence shows that Brigham Young did not authorize the massacre".
To also add to its appeal Christopher Cain directed...he also directed that other great western 'Young Guns' Its released today the 24th of August
Sounds good to me then again I like historical films.

The Love Guru

In the Love Guru Mike Myers plays Pitka, an American who as a child was left at the gates of an ashram in India and raised by gurus. He returns to the U.S., where he specializes in self-help and spirituality counseling for couples with intimacy problems. But the plot thickens when a star professional hockey player and his estranged wife come for counseling, only to see the wife seek revenge by dating a star player from a rival team. That plunges her husband into a major professional skid, to the horror of the team's owner. The cast include Romany Malco, who starred in Will Ferrell's hit comedy "Blades of Glory," and Verne (Mini-Me) Troyer, who plays the team's coach. "The Love Guru" marks the first original character Myers has played since Austin Powers. The film is scheduled to open June 20, 2008. Also lately it was announced that actress Jessica Alba is joining the cast of this new comedy which is scheduled to begin production in September in Toronto, according to Paramount Pictures.
A quick add on to this now is that Justin Timberlake has joined the cast of this Mike Myers project...they must have got on well during the voice recordings of Shrek the Third... I guess this will appeal to the ladies...

Star Wars Couple voted Most Unconvincing

Star Wars duo Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen have been voted the movie couple with the most unconvincing on-screen chemistry.
Their romance in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, tops a poll which features movie pairings like Kate Beckinsale and Ben Affleck, and Andie MacDowell and Hugh Grant.

I'm really not surprised I found their scenes in particular very difficult to watch however I do think its wrong to blame the actors alone......the writing for me was the main culprit....I think any actors would have had trouble to bring meaning or warmth to those words.......

Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy to play Spock

Director and executive producer J.J. Abrams has announced that Zachary Quinto - one of the stars of Heroes - will play Spock in his upcoming eleventh Star Trek film, and confirmed that Leonard Nimoy will play the older Spock as well!!
As for Kirk's role its still not cast l Abrams introduced Quinto as the new Spock and confirmed William Shatner's statements that Leonard Nimoy would appear in the film as Spock in later years. The writers still want Shatner to appear as well as the original Kirk, but have not yet worked out a way for to bring in the character as an older man.
I was surprised to hear that Nimoy and now perhaps also Shatner will return as their characters... I had no doubts they would appear only I was under the impression it would be a walk on part as maybe another character.... Like as their Dads or something

To me....It sort of goes against the vision originally spouted of a completely new imagining of Trek if these people are going to feature as themselves again.... then again maybe they will just be in the beginning and then thats it.....

Transformers

As a fan of the old cartoon and haven seen some early cgi I was really looking forward to this film......and it must be said Bay and Spielberg do a great job...the special effects are fantastic....when they transform throughout the movie it looks amazing but for me it truly stands out when Autobot fight Decepticon..... its mouth gaping destruction on a massive scale and I loved every minute of it! I was also vastly impressed with Shia LaBeouf who I had only seen before in that old kids show Even Stevens....he plays his role very well and looks the business which of course I'm sure will attract female attention but also eases my fear of him being the son in the new Indiana Jones movie.. I think he may be good now!! Megan Fox does the love interest adequately aswell and I do think she is a pretty girl...apparently though she was told to put on a bit of weight for this film as they thought she was getting too thin.... She did what she was told and put on a further ten pounds.... I still didn't see a pick on her!! They also got the voice talent of Peter Cullen back and as soon as you hear him speak at the beginning of the movie as Optimus Prime your immediately brought back to the old 80's animation...he just has one of those voices....not that he was ever limited to Optimus he had a lot of voice work in his career in many cartoons such as Venger from Dungeons and Dragons, Cindar in Visionaries and various characters in Ducktails, Gummi Bears, Winnie the Pooh, GI Joe, Johnny Quest, the real Ghostbusters, etc the list is as long as your arm...Its funny though because Cullen used to voice another Autobot called 'Ironhide' too ..but they got another guy in for that part in the film ..Strange?....Anyway.I personally feel nobody else but Cullen could voice Prime and I'm delighted they got him!! Its also really neat all the different nods and trivia to the early animation in this movie amongst other things.......... but my favourite is When Bumblebee introduces himself to Sam and Mikaela, speaking through the radio, he plays the sound bite, "Across the immense gulf of space"; the voice is that of Orson Welles from his infamous 1939 radio broadcast "The War of the Worlds." Wells provided the voice of the planet devouring transformer named Unicron in Transformers: The Movie (1986) which was Welles' final film performance. I thought that was great!! Of course it did have its bad points too for a start Optimus's mouth just didn't look right (yep I'm scraping the barrel I know ) but aswell as that Megatron isn't in it near enough either...he's frozen throughout and only freed near the end... I think I would have preferred to have seen much more scenes of him with his Decepticons together much like the way it was in the old animation....... If you like all action....or a special effects extravaganza...or just want to be brought back a tiny bit to your childhood .....then go see it... you won't be disappointed!!

Ashes to Ashes

Philip Glenister's character detective Gene Hunt will make a comeback in the UK in spin-off series to Life on Mars called Ashes to Ashes, which sees the action move forward to the 1980s. But Simm's character will be replaced by a female detective from the 21st Century, the sexy, intelligent, DCI Alex Drake played by Keeley Hawes, (yes the one better known as Zoe in Spooks or as the lesbian lover of Rachel Stirling in Tipping the Velvet) she is a single mother to daughter Molly, and has rapidly risen through the ranks of the Met and, in the modern world of 2008, skilfully uses psychological profiling to capture suspects. But when Alex and her daughter are kidnapped she makes a daring attempt at escape, resulting in a horrific accident and she wakes up finding herself in 1981 interacting with familiar characters, not just from her own life-time, but also from the detailed reports logged by none other than Sam Tyler, which Alex has previously spent months pouring over. After being used to her current world of sexual equality and respect in 2008 she finds herself opposite an arrogant fellow DCI (Hunt) in New Romantic Eighties London with a soundtrack of Adam Ant, Roxy Music and The Human League ringing in her ears. The makers are saying.... "It's a touch of Moonlighting teamed with a measure of Miami Vice." Also returning are Ray Carling (Dean Andrews) and Chris Skelton (Marshall Lancaster) who have remained loyal to Gene Hunt and are still part of his team in London Now a technological whizz-kid in the squad's surveillance team, DC Chris Skelton has clearly moved with the times, along with a tight-permed DS Ray Carling who's keen to experience London's nightlife. The new show is due to be screened on BBC One next year This will be great!!!!!

Life on Mars: US. Drama

Irish actors Jason O'Mara and Colm Meaney have been lined up to play the lead roles in the US version of hit BBC drama Life on Mars. O'Mara will take John Simm's role as time-travelling police officer Sam Tyler in the ABC network's pilot. While Meaney is reported to be in talks to star as detective Gene Hunt, played by Philip Glenister in the BBC version. The US remake will see Tyler transported back to the 1970s after his girlfriend is abducted and be on the trail of a serial killer which may have some link with the abduction.... I can understand Meaney but I don't understand O'Mara's casting...maybe they just wanted a relative unknown It will be interesting to see what the Americans do with it though......

Straightheads

This is a dark British thriller that I'm looking forward to seeing starring Gillian Anderson and Danny Dyer as a middle-class couple who after surviving a gang attack, embark on a violent spree. It may sound tame but its not really as Anderson gets gang raped too and then becomes quite sexually abusive to men later in the movie.....humiliating them, etc Its not the kind of film I would have ever associated with Gillian Anderson which is part of the reason I'm curious of her in it... and yes we apparently get to see what Mulder didn't!

Its released on DVD on 24-9-2007

Indiana Jones 4

It looks like the new Indy movie will link back to the love interest that featured in Raiders of the Lost Ark as Karen Allen is reprising her role as Marion Ravenwood....I'm guessing that Shia Le Beouf will be her son that Indiana knows nothing about...But not only this... John Hurt is going to be playing Marion's Father and Jones's mentor Abner Ravenwood who was presumed dead by Marion in the first film...remember she says to Indy That her Father thought 'he was the most gifted bum he had ever trained' so it is either going to be a think back scene with Abner or he isn't dead and will be helping our hero.... I'm also curious on whether they will kill off the late Denholm Elliot's character 'Marcus Brody' or is that the role Jim Broadbent is getting? I think he could do that role very well and Brody was a character I really liked....

Wonder Woman

Katie Holmes is in talks to play Wonder Woman in the new Hollywood Superhero Blockbuster Katie reckons this is the kind of role which could bring her back on a massive scale I think she may be a good casting for this...we all know she has the ...erm.... assets for the job Though for me there is still only one Wonder Woman.... the great Linda Carter!!
Synposis: The Amazonian princess-warrior Diana left her lush tropical island to dwell in our urban cityscapes of glass and steel. Tutored in the ways of the Greek warriors, and outfitted with incredible gifts the Goddess bestowed upon her people, she becomes Paradise Island's emissary to civilization.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

I just read about this ....the second sequel will unwrap a new mummy and feature a character who is the grown son of Rick and Evie (played in the previous films by Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz). It's aiming to shoot this summer under director Rob Cohen for a 2008 release. Apparently it will have a different concept to the others too as it is been written by two different writers to the first two. In the Far East, trouble-seeking father-and-son duo Rick (Fraser) and Alex O'Connell (Luke Ford) unearth the mummy of the first Emperor of Qin..... a shape-shifting entity who was cursed by a wizard centuries ago. It looks like Jet Li is to play the Mummy and that Michele Yeoh is the Wizard who curses him John Hannah reprises his role as the cowardly bumbling brother of Evie but this time round Rachel Weisz is not returning and actress Mario Bello is stepping in. Should be good!!

Ironman

As an old marvel fan Ironman is another movie that looks amazing and I'm so looking forward to seeing it has Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark/Ironman, Jon Favreau is in the Director's chair (I really like Favreau I think he's a funny character) there is also a great cast with Terrence Howard as Jim Rhodes (who will be the Future War Machine) Jeff Bridges as Obadiah Stane/Iron Monger, Samuel L. Jackson is Nick Fury, Hilary Swank, and Gwyneth Paltrow Synopsis: When Tony Stark is forced to create a life support suit to keep him alive after an accident he decides to use the technology in his suit to fight crime. Set for release in May 2008 I'm in the process of trying to get a trailer that everyone has raved about on comic con but since it has been removed from Youtube and everywhere else Here's a few pics and I have to say it looks cool!!!!
