Ashes to Ashes

Philip Glenister's character detective Gene Hunt will make a comeback in the UK in spin-off series to Life on Mars called Ashes to Ashes, which sees the action move forward to the 1980s. But Simm's character will be replaced by a female detective from the 21st Century, the sexy, intelligent, DCI Alex Drake played by Keeley Hawes, (yes the one better known as Zoe in Spooks or as the lesbian lover of Rachel Stirling in Tipping the Velvet) she is a single mother to daughter Molly, and has rapidly risen through the ranks of the Met and, in the modern world of 2008, skilfully uses psychological profiling to capture suspects. But when Alex and her daughter are kidnapped she makes a daring attempt at escape, resulting in a horrific accident and she wakes up finding herself in 1981 interacting with familiar characters, not just from her own life-time, but also from the detailed reports logged by none other than Sam Tyler, which Alex has previously spent months pouring over. After being used to her current world of sexual equality and respect in 2008 she finds herself opposite an arrogant fellow DCI (Hunt) in New Romantic Eighties London with a soundtrack of Adam Ant, Roxy Music and The Human League ringing in her ears. The makers are saying.... "It's a touch of Moonlighting teamed with a measure of Miami Vice." Also returning are Ray Carling (Dean Andrews) and Chris Skelton (Marshall Lancaster) who have remained loyal to Gene Hunt and are still part of his team in London Now a technological whizz-kid in the squad's surveillance team, DC Chris Skelton has clearly moved with the times, along with a tight-permed DS Ray Carling who's keen to experience London's nightlife. The new show is due to be screened on BBC One next year This will be great!!!!!

Life on Mars: US. Drama

Irish actors Jason O'Mara and Colm Meaney have been lined up to play the lead roles in the US version of hit BBC drama Life on Mars. O'Mara will take John Simm's role as time-travelling police officer Sam Tyler in the ABC network's pilot. While Meaney is reported to be in talks to star as detective Gene Hunt, played by Philip Glenister in the BBC version. The US remake will see Tyler transported back to the 1970s after his girlfriend is abducted and be on the trail of a serial killer which may have some link with the abduction.... I can understand Meaney but I don't understand O'Mara's casting...maybe they just wanted a relative unknown It will be interesting to see what the Americans do with it though......
